Veterans Day Celebrations 2016



8:30 a.m. – Veterans Breakfast
Masonic Lodge, Metropolis St., Metropolis
Free breakfast to any veteran and their family members.

11 a.m. – Rededication of Brookport War Memorial
Across from the Senior Citizen building, Hwy 45, Brookport
Since the war memorial sculpted by Bernard Batts in 1951 was repaired in early October, it is fitting we recognize the sacrifice of our men and women this Veteran’s Day, All veterans are invited to attend this short ceremony wearing the insignia received for their efforts. 11 a.m. – Veteran’s Day Service
Memorial Park by Library, 317 Metropolis St., Metropolis
Mike Hardison of Community Christian Church is the speaker. The national anthem will be sung by The American Girls and Boys Life Trail. All veterans and the public are invited.

11 a.m. – Veteran’s Day Parade 
Downtown, Paducah, Ky.
Veterans from all Armed Forces will be recognized with this parade. For information, call 270-444-8508.

6-8 p.m. – Veterans Day Program
Elijah P. Curtis Home, 405 Market St., Metropolis
A new exhibit will display uniforms from World War I to Present Day, along with patches and medals. There will  be over 100 photographs and postcards from the World War I and World War II era, as well as posters and copies of Life Magazines. Local Historian, Justin Reynolds will be speaking about Company M, an African American Company that made great contributions to the military. There will also be a presentation to any descendants present of members of Company M. For information, call 618-309-3581.

6 -10 p.m. – American Legion Pat Beasley Concert
American Legion Post 306, 321 Market St., Metropolis
Pat Beasley, from Paducah, will perform various tunes including patriotic and country songs. Snacks will be provided.


2 p.m. – SCC Veteran’s Monument Dedication & Basketball Game
Shawnee Community College, 8364 Shawnee College Rd., Ullin
The dedication will be outside the Edward M. Smith Center on the main campus starts at 2 p.m.. Veterans will receive free admission to the basketball game which starts at 3 p.m. For information, contact Jipaum Askew-Robinson at 618-634-3360 or
