57th Annual Golconda Deer Festival
Historic Golconda, Illinois
This four-day event brings entertainment, pageants, a vast array of vendors offering handmade arts and crafts, wildlife displays as well as other items and everyone’s favorite, barbecue, which will be prepared by the Crim brothers.
Wednesday: At 7:00 p.m. the festivities kick off with a community-wide church service featuring various local churches participating under the main tent. Everyone is invited to attend.
Thursday: The fun continues with a day of browsing through the huge tent on the courthouse lawn that houses the crafts and other booths. The pageants begin at 6:30 p.m. in the main tent. Come and find out who will win the Baby Photo Contest, Little Mr. & Miss, Junior Mr. & Miss, and Senior Mr. & Miss.
Friday: Food will start being served at 10:00 a.m. The Deer Queen contest will be held at 7:00 p.m. with the contestants from Pope County High School vying for the coveted crown.
Saturday: Entertainment will be provided on Main Street at the review stand until parade time. The parade starts around 2:00 p.m. which features many creative entries, church and civic organizations along with bands. The Damsels in Distress pageant starts at 5:00 p.m. and is sure to get you laughing.
The Deer Festival is held every year the weekend before Thanksgiving. This event is sponsored by the Golconda Rotary Club and this is their major fundraiser of the year. Other sponsors include Bulldog Systems, Banterra Bank, Williams & Associates, and WSIL-TV 3.
