What started as a one-day “Homecoming” for the local residents has now evolved into a 4-day celebration that attracts Superman Fans and families from around the world. This year marks the 46th year that Metropolis, IL has been designated as the adopted “Home of Superman.”

The Superman Celebration kicks off at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 7th and runs through 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 10th. Many special events are planned for this year’s Celebration including musical entertainment, a carnival, Superman Celebrity Autograph and Q & A Sessions, and the Heroes & Villains Costume Contest.

New location for the Celebrity Guests – All celebrities with the exception of John Newton will be located in Planet Krypton, along with our Guest Writers and Artists. Planet Krypton is the Courthouse Annex located on 8th Street between Market and Ferry streets. Autograph Zone and Artists Alley/Writers Way are on the 1st floor. The lower level will house Kandor. Entrance into Kandor will be through the rear entrance at the Northeast corner of Planet Krypton. Handicap accessible with elevator access.

Ticket information is as follows: Armbands $15 (armbands required for every session) – Single tickets $1 (2 or more required) – 20 tickets for $15 (A savings of $5). There are two sessions on Saturday, each session requires a separate armband purchase. All weather permitting.

Annual Superman Road Race & Fun Walk
7-8:30 p.m.
Fort Massac Park, 1308 E. 5th St., Metropolis
The 30th Annual Superman Road Race will include a 4-mile run and a 2-mile walk. Participants start and return in Fort Massac State Park. Awards given for both Men and Women based on age divisions. Race starts and ends at the large pavilion across from Sonic. Pick up entry form at the Chamber of Commerce or visit Facebook.

Each Team/Lane must have 5-6 people. Bumper bowling for kids is on the far lane. Cost is $8 per person which includes two games and shoe rental. Artist Alley artist, Steven Walden, will be putting his talents to the test with a custom live speed painting. This painting will be raffled off on Sunday after the Costume Contest. Tickets are $5 for 1 ticket, or $25 for 6 tickets. Tickets can be purchased at the Metro Tent.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Superhero items go up for bid to help restore The Massac Theatre. Also included is a 2019 Superman Celebration weekend package. Admission is $5. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. All proceeds from auction will benefit The Massac Theatre and will go toward its restoration.

Superman Generations, 80 Years Looking Super

A look at the evolution of the iconic suit over the past 80 years located in the Metro Tent. Learn interesting facts about the ever changing look of the Man of Steel. Hosted by special Guest, Michael Eury and featuring live Supermen with each representing a different era from Media and Comics. The Generations 80th Anniversary photo shoot will take place on the steps of the Hall of Justice at 6 p.m.

Heroes & Villains Costume & Character Contest

Metro Tent, downtown Metropolis
Registration on Sunday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The Parade of Characters starts at 1 p.m. from Smallville Tent to the Superman statue for group photo. 1st place is $500, 2nd place is $250, and 3rd place is $100. There is a $20 entry fee. Contestants judged on costume, character, and overall presentation.
