Superman Celebration is June 7-10

What started as a one-day “Homecoming” for the local residents has now evolved into a 4-day celebration that attracts Superman Fans and families from around the world. This year marks the 46th year that Metropolis, IL has been designated as the adopted “Home of Superman.”

The Superman Celebration kicks off at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 7th and runs through 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 10th. Many special events are planned for this year’s Celebration including musical entertainment, a carnival, Superman Celebrity Autograph and Q & A Sessions, and the Heroes & Villains Costume Contest.

Near Superman Statue, downtown Metropolis
Stephens Aircraft Solutions will have a reservation booth located at Superman Square. Rides are $50 per person with a minimum of 2 riders and can take up to 3 riders. The flight lasts 15 minutes.

Ticket information is as follows: Armbands $15 (armbands required for every session) – Single tickets $1 (2 or more required) – 20 tickets for $15 (A savings of $5). There are two sessions on Saturday, each session requires a separate armband purchase. All weather permitting.

Annual Superman Road Race & Fun Walk
7-8:30 p.m.
Fort Massac Park, 1308 E. 5th St., Metropolis
The 30th Annual Superman Road Race will include a 4-mile run and a 2-mile walk. Participants start and return in Fort Massac State Park. Awards given for both Men and Women based on age divisions. Race starts and ends at the large pavilion across from Sonic. Pick up entry form at the Chamber of Commerce or visit Facebook.

Annual Super Bowl(ing)
7-10 p.m.
Super Bowl, 1107 E. 8th St, Metropolis
Each Team/Lane must have 5-6 people. Bumper bowling for kids is on the far lane. Cost is $8 per person which includes two games and shoe rental. Bring any Superman or geeky item to donate to Sell For Good and/or bring some money to buy. Raffle also available. All proceeds are donated to The Humane Society. Facebook.

Save the Massac Breakfast with Superheroes

7-10 a.m.
Happy Hearts Senior Center, 701 Market St., Metropolis
Dine with your favorite superheroes with a special breakfast for kids and kids of all ages. Superheroes will be on hand for photos and to interact with the crowd. Scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy with choice of milk, orange juice or coffee will be served. Limited seating. Superman Super Site Meet & Greet
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Please RSVP and join us for the 9th Annual Superman Super Site Meet & Greet taking place during the 40th Annual Superman Celebration in Metropolis, IL. This years event  will feature various door prizes being given away including DVD’s, Blu-rays, and many other donated items from local merchants as well as fun, food and a few surprises. Artist Alley Is probably one of the coolest places during Superman Celebration where Artists and Writers gather, ready to show off their sketches, books, magazines, comics and charm. Featured guests are Philo Barnhart (professional film animator), Alex Saviuk (artist), Art Baltazar (comic artist), Peter Poplaski, (artist),  Michael Eury (writer/editor), Jon Pinto (artist), Charles D. Rotary Super Car Show
Fort Massac Park, 1308 E. 5th St., Metropolis
