4th Annual Run for Hope, 5K Run/Walk is Oct. 3

Eagle House Ministries is sponsoring this 5K Run/ Walk  and ½-Mile Fun Run/Walk. Funds from the race will be used to winterize the lighthouse at Eagle House Ministries. The race will start and finish at the Vienna City Park during the Fall Festival.

  • Same day registration 4:45 pm. and ends promptly at 5:40 pm.
  • 5K Run/Walk will start at 6 pm with walkers starting at the back of the pack.
  • Kid’s ½-mile Fun Run will start at 6:45 pm.
  • Course map. Race will begin three miles north of Vienna on the trail. You will be bused to the starting point from the Vienna City Park.
  • Flat course (On the Tunnel Hill Trail).
  • Proceeds will benefit Eagle House Ministries.
  • T-shirts will be available on a first come first serve basis.

Fees  are $25 for the 5K and $7 for the  Kids Fun Run (under 13 years of age). Prize presentation immediately follows the Kids Fun Run. Classifications for Men’s and Women’s Divisions: Under 14, 14 – 19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39,  40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-65, 66 and over.

Superman Square, Metropolis

(Metropolis Chamber announced the cancellation of the George Rogers Clark Discovery Ride. All participants/sponsors who have pre-paid will receive a refund in mail.)

The ride begins in front of the Superman Statue on Superman Square and will continue through the streets of Metropolis, before entering Fort Massac State Park. Once in the park, the the ride continues on the bike trail to Brookport City Park before returning to Metropolis. The full trip is a leisurely, scenic 20 miles. You will pass the Superman Statue and the Hope Light Lighthouse, along the banks of the Ohio River. You will also see the historic Fort Massac and continue through the park on a flat, smoothly paved trail.

For an additional fee, lunch will be provided by the Save the Massac Theatre committee. Proceeds from the lunch will go towards renovating the 1938 Art Deco Movie Theatre in Metropolis.

Entries received by September 12 will receive an official GRC Discovery Ride shirt with entry fee of $30. All entries received after September 12 will receive a shirt as long as supplies last with entry fee of $40. All participants must have an registration form, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants mush wear a helmet.

Super City Quilt City Connection Quilt Show

Super City/Quilt Connection: A Celebration of Arts Between Two Cities

National Quilt Museum, 215 Jefferson, Paducah, Ky.

Metropolis Tourism and the National Quilt Museum are proud to combine forces for the fifth year of Super City – Quilt City Connection, A Celebration of the Arts between Two Cities. An assortment of exhibits and activities will be held in both cities.

The Massac Quilters Guild Quilt show combines quilting instruction, classes and demonstrations for an event of super measure at the Metropolis Community Center in Metropolis, while exhibits, demonstrations and lectures by known experts will be featured at The National Quilt Museum. Many of the activities are either free or low cost.

The Massac Quilters Guild Quilt Show will feature a Super Block Challenge and exhibitors demonstrating needlework, basket making and more.  The block challenge is open to all quilters.  The ‘Fat Quarter Frenzy!’ is back this year. Bring one Fat Quarter for a chance to win all of them!

Featured speaker is John Schwegman. His talk about the Natural History of Puerto Rico will cover the wildlife of the island with an emphasis on birds. Everyone interested in history, birds or Puerto Rico is invited to attend the free meeting. Meeting is usually the first Monday, but was delayed a week due to Labor Day.

All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Advanced registration prices are $10 and $20. Awards will be given for the top 3 male/female runners in 6 age categories. Additionally, the top 3 male runners overall, top 3 female runners overall, and the top 3 participants in the 1 mile fun run/walk will also receive awards. Teams must register by Sept. 5th at noon to be eligible for team competition.
