Metropolis Police Department Stuff the Van Food Drive

The Metropolis Police Department is partnering with the local charity group, Weekend Blessings, this year to help feed our school kids. The Metropolis Police van will be parked at the following locations on the listed dates. Help stuff the van to provide food for children in need during the weekends.

Type of foods they are looking for are:
Single serve portions of Macaroni & Cheese, Ravioli, Soup, Vienna Sausages, Ramen Noodles, Applesauce, Fruit Cups, Granola Bars, Snack Bars, Chips, Cookies, Rice Krispie Treats and Fruit Snacks.

The van will be at the following locations:

  • Tue. Nov. 7 – Metropolis Elementary
  • Wed. Nov. 8 – Unity Elementary
  • Thu. Nov. 9 – Brookport Elementary
  • Tue. Nov. 14 – Jefferson Elementary
  • Wed. Nov. 15 – Franklin Elementary

Unable to make it to one of the schools to donate? No problem. Metropolis City Hall will also have a box available for donations to be dropped off.

Each Friday, Weekend Blessings provides participating children receive a bag consisting of two breakfast selections, two lunch selections, two dinner selections, a dairy snack, a fruit snack and a fun snack in their school lockers. Currently, the Weekend Blessings Program is serving 125-130 local students each week. Average yearly cost to operate the program is $23,000. Community Chili Cook Off is Nov. 11

American Legion invites you to bring your best crockpot full of chili and let their special judges decide who is the Best Chili Cook!

Cook Off is open to the community!

Chili must be at American Legion by 10:30 a.m. and ready to judge and serve. Bowls and spoons provided by American Legion.

Attendees may purchase Chili for
$3.00 a Bowl
or
$5.00 for a Bowl and Taste Test others

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will receive prizes.

Garden Club Plant Sale is April 24

Sale of perennials from club members’ gardens, a few annuals, and plant-related items. The plant sale is open to everyone.  Free admission.

Any plants left over will be sold at the Farmers Market on Saturday, April 29.

To order a plate you MUST send a copy of a CURRENT Illinois Vehicle Registration for each plate that you order.  It MUST NOT expire before JUNE 2017.  If it does expire then in order to receive your plate you will need to renew your registration early and send a copy of the renewed registration.  A copy of the owner’s Driver’s License MUST be included.Please make sure that this application is returned.

Plates are $35.00 PER SET.  If they have to be shipped, the cost is $42.00 PER SET.   The cost for orders received after March 6th will be $50. (this includes shipping whether applicable or not).

Orders that do not include he appropriate amount of money cannot be filled.  Make check payable to Metropolis Rotary Club or you may submit payment thru paypal via the donate button found at metropolisrotaryclub.org (please note the required paperwork must still be submitted via mail or email).
